City of Covington - Street Maintenance

  • Ballot measure coming in August - One source of income from Covington for streets which is roughly $380K in fuel tax

  • Additional sales tax would be $18 a year for residents

  • But $1.3 million from people that comes to Covington will help pay for our streets

  • They would repeal the car tab tax, and the sales tax would not go into effect until that repeal

  • Counsel, would immediately repeal the car tab tax, if the tax is passed.  Should take about a month

 

Would this be for retail goods and services?

  • All taxable items, which includes services.  Does not include most food.

  • Services are normally taxed where the services are provided

  • Update the zip code +4 digit doesn't always say Covington and we are charged Kent Sales tax

 

Where is the additional general funds from the sales tax

  • Council will decide where the additional funds after the tax measure is passed

 

Weeds along the 204th

  • A new maintenance company was selected

 

Getting a left hand turn lane at the exit of Covington

 

260th Ave

  • The current owners would have to make a proposal to the City and the City would have to evaluate

 

For the underpass tunnel on 204th, is there a plan to install CCTV and/or a blue light emergency phone?

  • Camera system called Flock, installing them at all the entrances of Covington

 

New Aquatic Center

  • Counsel has been voted to leave the current location

  • Have been working with a consultant

  • Estimate cost of $87 million

  • Identified a design of for 1-story, and 2-story

  • Looking to revenue

 

204th Bus Route

  • King Country Bus Route doesn't currently have capacity

 

King Country Shopping Bus

  • Debby is going to talk to our Chamber of Commerce

 

272nd widening

  • Should be completed by the end of the year

 

Bus stop need to evaluated for the a left on 204th & Kent Kangley

  • Debby will report this issue to King County Metro

 

Brookfield Update on Maple Hills V

Metrics and milestones for increase of security

Currently building the retaining wall

Some of the permitting is completed for Lake Pointe and are expecting to complete the work for the rest of the year in the next 2 years

Requirement is require that is publicly available

 

Maple Hills V

  • 22-Single Family Lots

  • Small Park

  • Should start in Fall 2024

  • 8 - 15 month buildout of homes

 

Builders would need to extend the permit, currently August

Wear and Tear would need to be detailed and given to Brookfield and they would notified the City

Ask the city regarding larger plats, and the holistic
